What Is Radon?
Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water. You can’t see, smell or taste it. It moves up through the ground and into homes through cracks and other openings, so any home can have a problem. Testing is the only way to know your level.
EPA estimates radon causes about 21,000 lung cancer deaths a year in the US. The outdoor level averages about 0.4 pCi/L and the average US indoor level is about 1.3 pCi/L.
Common entry points EPA lists include cracks in solid floors and walls, construction joints, gaps around pipes, and cavities inside walls. Read your number with our results guide.
